Why Roam City
A personal map, built one detail at a time.
Why Roam City exists, and the principles it is built on.
From the founder
Why I built Roam City
I did not start Roam City because I needed another place to save routes. I wanted a way to look at a familiar city and see what I had not noticed yet.
We tend to believe we know the place where we live. In reality, most of us move through a small loop of familiar streets. I wanted those blank spaces to become visible, and I wanted discovering them to feel personal rather than performative.
That is why Roam City begins with a personal map. You decide when an exploration starts. The map grows with you, on your own terms.
Roam City is still being shaped one detail at a time. The goal is simple: give people a reason to look at familiar places with fresh eyes.
Principles
How we build it
A few principles that shape the product, beyond the feature list.
- You decide when exploration starts and stops.
- Progress is measured in walked streets, not in points.
- Rules that change your number are versioned and apply to everyone.
- Export and deletion options are available from your account.
